When I began writing this blog, that was the exact time left until Christmas! The holidays are one of, if not my favorite time of the year. Most everyone is in a giving/helpful mood looking to lend a hand wherever they can, or maybe just buy a stranger’s coffee in the morning. Whatever it is, you can’t help but admit that this is a special time of the year. Giving to others is a very selfless act. It is true that the price of the gift given does not matter, but it’s the thought that counts. However, many will be receiving high dollar gifts this year. In the great state of Alabama, many of these gifts will come in the form of ATVs and UTVs. Amongst the excitement of receiving a gift such as this, along with the joy of riding one, it can be easy to forget about the insurance that is required to adequately protect yourself and your loved ones when operating an ATV or UTV. Many people believe these are covered under their homeowner’s policy, but if driven or stored off property, they may not be!

As always, consult with your agent first and find out the coverage that is right for you! In the meantime, let’s breakdown ATV and UTV insurance so you can understand why it is important for you to carry this coverage and what all a standard ATV/UTV policy will cover.

The Why

  1. ATVs and UTVs are one of the most commonly stolen items.

  2. Liability coverage on your ATV/UTV will cover damage to someone else’s property.

  3. It will cover your passengers in the event they are injured in an accident.

What Does It Cover?

  • Collision Coverage

    • This will cover damage done to your ATV or UTV when it hits, or it is hit by an object.

  • Property Damage

    • Insures you in the event you wreck the ATV or UTV and cause damage to another person’s property.

  • Bodily Injury

    • Covers you in the event you injure or kill someone while operating the ATV or UTV.

  • Comprehensive Coverage

    • Comprehensive coverage will cover damage or loss caused by an incident other than collision. Such as, theft, fire, vandalism, or perhaps a tree falling on the vehicle.

  • Medical Payments Coverage

    • Covers damages done to you and your passengers in the event of an accident.

  • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage

    • In the event you are struck by an uninsured or an underinsured motorist, driving an insurable vehicle, on a public road.

I hope you found this post informative. Whether you have recently purchased an ATV or UTV and need coverage, or you are in the decision-making process of purchasing one, we aim to make the insurance part as easy as possible.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
